Selena Gomez Sued for $1 Million for Stealing a Song? - Gather Celebs News Channel

Selena Gomez may be loved by her devoted fans and her boyfriend Justin Bieber, but there is a group of songwriters who are not pleased with Gomez at the moment. According to Court House News, Selena is mentioned in a $1 million lawsuit because the songwriters are claiming that her 2010 hit, A Year Without Rain, is actually a ripoff of their song from 2005, Buy a Dog. While the song titles sound nothing alike, the four songwriters believe they have a strong case against the young artist.

The four songwriters are Tom Luce, Brian Kroll, Matt Blackett and Lawrence Riggs and they are convinced that Selena's song is virtually the same song as theirs. She isn't the only one mentioned in the lawsuit, as The Scene is also named. The two performed the song in Spanish in 2010 as well.

Did Selena Gomez really listen to the songwriters' song before singing her own? Or did she accept the song from another songwriter, who potentially copied their song? It isn't the entire song that is copied. It is only the melodies in the chorus. Essentially, the lawsuit highlights that Selena's team essentially stole the melodies for her song, which is an infringement on the songwriters' copyright. They never gave them permission to copy or borrow the creative work and since she profited from the hit song, they want their share of the money.

Selena's rep hasn't responded to the lawsuit, but she is enjoying herself with Justin Bieber these days.
